A KW Record article today provides some interesting details about ervenue from our local curb-side recycling:
• Aluminum: $2,176 per tonne sold to Anheuser-Busch
• Glass: $20 per tonne, processing in Guelph.
• Steel cans: $171 per tonne most goes to Hamilton.
• Newsprint $96 per tonne, sold in Ontario
• Mixed paper: $47 per tonne
• Corrugated cardboard: $93 per tonne
• Boxboard (cereal boxes): $57 per tonne
• Plastic bags: $139 / tonne
• Plastic #1: $365 per tonne
• Plastic #2: $634 / tonne
• Plastic #s 3-7: $16 / tonne, mostly shipped to China.

I was trying to say "just that" to a guy I broke up with because he thought recycling was just for tree-hugging, bierkenstok wearing liberals...
Not sure of the revenue savings, but for the ecology's sae, an idea we could all put in to practice: Reuse of water; each time you rinse out the coffee pot or pet's h2o dish, or boil veggies in a bit of water, capture that water instead of disgarding it---use it to water the plants-indoor or out. You could use the veggie water to make soup or to cook your next serving of veggies (I know, not all of us are in to making soup or veggies, apply the concept where it fits your life...); the amount of perfectly good water thrown out daily, hourly, is astounding!
